For the community, by the community.

Throughout 2025 & 2026, we helped raise funds towards the purchase of a chemotherapy chair for Blackall Hospital, helping bring more comfort and support to locals undergoing cancer treatment.

Living in regional and remote Australia often means long drives, time away from family, and extra stress when accessing healthcare. That's why having quality services and equipment available closer to home matters so much. It means people can receive care surrounded by the community that knows them, supports them, and stands beside them.

This fundraiser is a way of backing local healthcare. It's about making a difficult journey a little easier, and showing that when our community sees a need, we step all up.

How we supported.

We kicked off our support at the 2025 Better in Blackall Festival, where auction proceeds, donations and the incredible generosity of our community got us off to a flying start. Combined with a charity triathlon organised by our amazing Sport & Recreation Officer (and fundraiser coordinator), Natalie, an incredible $6,000 towards the goal was raised.

In August 2026, Nat (the absolute legend) decided she was going to LITERALLY step up! To raise the final funds needed to hit her goal of $10 000, she was planning to tackle the epic 100km run from Blackall to Tambo to get this much-needed program across the line.

Obviously, we wanted to help.

For every donation towards the fundraising goal, Better in Blackall would match it dollar for dollar. We smashed it out of the park. The kindness & generosity of both locals and travelers alike, combined with the unbelieved tenacity and dedication of Nat, meant that we DOUBLED the goal!

What happens now.

Once all donations are finalised & collated, the funds will be handed over to the Blackall Hospital team. While the chair is a huge milestone, there's still plenty of work ahead to make local cancer treatment a reality, from training staff to setting up services and plenty more behind the scenes. This fundraiser marks the first of many important steps towards bringing care closer to home for our community. All funds raised over the target amount are also be donated to the Blackall hospital to assist with their space & the services they provide our local community.

The thank-yous.

Everyone who donated. We were overwhelmed by the support that came from our community - individuals, community groups, businesses, you name it! They were all behind this without hesitation. We were even more blown away by the travelers & tourists that gave just as much to this little outback town that they just happened to be passing through.

Blackall Caravan Park. Sam & Jordan became one of the biggest cheerleaders for the cause, turning their weekly dinners into weekly fundraisers, and making a huge impact on both the dollars raised and the exposer of the cause.

Blackall Hospital and Central West Hospital & Health Services. For all you do, for all you have done & for all that you continue to do for our community. You care for our friends and our family (you are our friends and our family) and we can not thank you enough. We know that your job is not easy and this is a way our community can try to show their thanks and make it a little easier. We also know that getting any additional services to our area is a long task and not an easy one - training, approvals, equipment, and so much more behind the scenes we would know nothing about. Hopefully this helps if the opportunity comes our way.

The Tambo Community. In the words of Nat ‘from about 10kms out, I felt like the whole of Tambo was running with me’. Nat rolled into Tambo in the dark, flanked by runners, bike riders, horse riders and even the flashing lights of our first responder. She was met with hugs, signs, cheers, even an ice bath in a cattle trough & very cold beers. What a way to finish.
